YOUR YEAR 2018

Welcome to your first Annual Impact report for the Dawn Brown Fund

Releasing The Grants

In the year ahead, we can look forward to making the first grants from the fund, and in doing so celebrate and honour Dawn in the best way possible. By giving opportunities for more people to be apart of the Bensham Grove Community Centre, to enjoy the opportunity to learn and explore arts and crafts, realise their artistic potential, make friends and feel part of their community

GeNErosity

You’re part of a movement. The UK Community Foundations network has now collectively given away over £1 billion, thanks to the generosity of local philanthropists, and more than 10% of that figure is here in Tyne and Wear and Northumberland; we have been able to distribute more than £120m in grants since we were founded in 1988. Thanks for joining us to help change the world on our doorstep.

2018 is our 30th Birthday and we wanted to find a way to engage with partners to celebrate the role philanthropy and the way it plays in our lives. We are very proud therefore to announce GeNErosity- a FESTIVAL OF PHILANTHROPY AND GIVING IN THE NORTH EAST NOVEMBER 2018.

It will be a unique celebration of the region’s philanthropy and generosity. Designed as a series of events, debates, and performances. GeNErosity shines a light on the best in all of us. Delivered in partnership  by Newcastle University and the community Foundation Tyne and Wear and Northumberland. Its the first of its kind in the region, celebrating and highlighting how we all play our part.

We look forward to sharing more details about the program of events as the year progresses.

I’d like to draw your attention to the next section of this report, which outlines priorities for local philanthropy emerging from our latest vital signs report published online in November 2017. Alongside social issues like poverty, mental health and well being and diversity and inclusion, we suggest there is a need to boost funding to areas such as South Tyneside and Sunderland where grant making is relatively low. I hope you find this interesting and that it helps explain more about the many ways that the community Foundation aims to support our local communities to thrive.

Finally, our thanks again to everyone whose generosity helped establish the fund, which will ensure that Dawn’s legacy lives on.
